We’re Terra Incognita — a collective effort bringing life skills and trauma-processing education, tools and support to adolescents and teenagers, and some useful info to adults as well.
“Life skills like — ?”
Yeah, okay. This is broad. As is the goal!
Think: things you wish someone had told you when you were younger.
For our founder Amanda, this was a lot of things.
Here are some questions she has been known to ask herself:
How do I braid my own hair?
Why are all of my white shirts kinda, bleh?
How am I supposed to just know how to shave my armpits?
I should probably be able to build a birdhouse by now, right?
Why can’t I just sew a simple dang skirt, for crying out loud?
What even is a credit score, you guys?
How does something that happened a super long time ago make a difference in my life today?
That doesn’t make any sense.
So, yeah, it’s a lot.
But, we’re up to the challenge!
That brings us to the trauma-processing part.
We aren’t talking about screaming into pillows here (although, have you done that lately? It feels pretty good). We are talking about easy, manageable ways to get all mindful n’ shit, connect the body to the mind and the mind to the body and my money on my mind–erp, wait, wrong jam. But, you get the point. We’re talking kickboxing, we’re talking meditation, we’re talking writing, we’re talking yoga, we’re talking talking, (like, capital T-talking), we’re talking comedy, we’re talking some serious B-ball, we’re talking growing food, we’re talking tai chi, we’re talking lots of connection and letting things be a little uncomfortable so they can be way better than they were. No big.
